2 Timothy 1:7. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind
Reinforcement is a powerful teaching tool. Strong companies will not just write a mission statement or vision statement, but they’ll repeat it over and over. They’ll frame it and put it on the wall. They’ll put it on their website. They’ll make reference to it in meetings and quote it in corporate reports. If they’re sharp, they’ll include it in management dialogues and supervisory conversations. There will be no doubt among clients and customers nor will there be “wiggle room” among the team members. It will be clear because it’s been reinforced, and the company’s initiatives will go forth with boldness and confidence.
What do we do to reinforce our life’s mission, or vision, or purpose, in our own lives? God’s idea was that we’d spend time with Him every day, receiving daily reminders of His power, His love and His mission and purpose for our lives.
When it comes to spiritual things, are you bold? Are you brave when it comes to praying publicly, or teaching the bible, or bringing Christian thought into a secular conversation, or challenging someone who uses our Lord’s name inappropriately? A lot of us can get really, really timid. And that is not the Spirit that the Lord has given us.
Some of us are bold people by nature, so it’s important to reflect upon whether our “boldness” is just our personality or whether it’s really coming from spiritual strength.
When it’s time for sharing our faith at an Insignia event, or sharing with friends or standing for our beliefs with family—or even when representing Him when we take on big projects at work—we’ll be bold and not timid if we’ve spent regularly, daily time allowing God to reinforce His truth in our lives.
Is there a conflicted relationship that’s been crying out for reconciliation? Make the call today. Is there a decision you’ve been avoiding? Make the decision. Does your family need a spiritual change? Turn things around before the sun goes down. This verse doesn’t use the word “Nike,” but Just Do It, guided by the spirit of power, love and discipline that comes from God. Don’t give His enemy another victory by giving into the anxiousness or timidity he’s planted in you.
A Prayer for Leaders: “Make me a bold person, Lord. I don’t mean ‘loud’ or ‘gross’ or ‘obnoxious,’ but I don’t want to be timid, or shy, or weak, or scared. Ever. I want the confidence that comes from You: from Your power, from Your love, and from the sound thinking that comes by having spent regular, constant daily time with you. I ask it according to what you’re capable of doing in me. Amen.”
